Sorghum Festival

We've just returned from the annual Sorghum Festival at Brazos de Dios. It was a nice way to spend the day, despite the oppressive heat. I realized that although I've been there many times, I've never taken any pictures, so I decided I would today. As the day wore on it got harder to get good shots, though - it was pretty crowded. We watched them press sorghum and make syrup, and ate brisket sandwiches and ice cream (they make really marvelous ice cream).

They also just opened their new fiber crafts workshop. It was packed full of people, but looked pretty neat.

Can't wait for the Thanksgiving Fair! It won't be 95 degrees, and there will be lots more going on. I'll be sure to take the camera for that!

  2. Not sure if you are aware, but the fiber craft workshop is the same building that they were using for the post and beam barn raising at the craft fair last year?

This was the first time we've been to the sorghum festival. Too hot for me being outside, I think I'll stick with the craft fair in the fall. Even after 15 years in the south I still can't handle the heat.

If you have never been on the hay ride you should go next time, it's amazing how far back the property goes and the story of the homestead.

  3. I know, Stephen - the heat was AWFUL today! We were dying. We go down there a lot, actually. We've gotten to know some of the folks down there, so between that and all the classes we take, we've gotten the full history probably many times over! We love it there. Also, my husband helped build the pavilion at the overlook as part of a timber framing class.

  4. You took some great photos - it was almost like being there...without the heat, that is. Thanks for taking "us" along.
